In Kazan, the participants of "Gas into Motors" international motor rally took part today in the ceremony of delivery of buses operating on natural gas to the municipal motor transport enterprises.

15 NEFAZ buses and 15 Lotos buses using natural gas as fuel were delivered within the framework of the first-stage transfer of vehicles. In total, Kazan motor transport fleets will be replenished with 104 eco-friendly buses.

Tatarstan occupies a leading position in the development of the natural gas vehicle (NGV) fuel market. The republic purchased 1,998 NGV vehicles within the period from 2013 to 2018. 2,182 vehicles were switched to natural gas as part of the programme subsidizing transport vehicles re-equipment cost.

The consumption of natural gas as motor fuel in the Republic of Tatarstan has increased 4 times in the past five years. The network of Gazprom's NGV-refuelling compressor stations has increased from 10 to 19 facilities.

"The Republic of Tatarstan is an example of integrated approach in extending the use of natural gas as motor fuel. Gazprom has the largest number of gas filling stations in the region today owing to the systemic work to increase the fleet of gas-engine machinery; there is a significant increase in methane sales", Mikhail Likhachev, Director General of Gazprom Gas-Engine Fuel, said.

Background

The world longest rally of vehicles operating on liquefied natural gas "Gas into Motors" is on, scheduled to pass from September 4, 2018 to October 4, 2018 through the territories of China, Kazakhstan and Russia.
The event is organized by the largest energy providers of Russia, Kazakhstan and China - Gazprom, KazMunayGas and CNPC. Among the partners are a German company Uniper, as well as Silkway Rally Association for the Support and Development of Motor Sports - the organizer of the Silk Way international rally.
The "Gas into Motors" motor rally route has been laid mainly along the new Europe-China International Transport Corridor (ITC). The motor rally passed through the cities of Suqian, Zhengzhou, Xian, Dingxi, Uwei, Jiayuguan, Hami, Turfan, Usu, Khorgos (China); Almaty, Taraz, Turkestan, Kyzylorda, Aralsk, Aktobe (Kazakhstan). In Russia, the motor rally is to pass through the cities: Orenburg, Almetyevsk, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Vladimir, Torzhok and St. Petersburg.
The International Transport Corridor Europe-China is a large-scale comprehensive investment project covering the territories of Russia, Kazakhstan and China. The total length exceeds 8 thousand km.
The construction of the gas-filling infrastructure along the Europe-China ITC is implemented within the framework of cooperation between Gazprom, CNPC and KazMunayGas. The respective memorandum was signed on October 5, 2017 at VII St. Petersburg International Gas Forum.
The production and sale of natural gas as motor fuel is a strategic direction of Gazprom PJSC activities. To provide systemic work over the development of the natural gas vehicle fuel market, a specialized company was set up - Gazprom Gas-Engine Fuel LLC. The activities of Gazprom Gas-Engine Fuel are aimed at creating comfortable conditions for switching transport to methane, through extending the network of Gazprom's NGV-refuelling compressor stations.
Currently, 281 Gazprom's NGV-refuelling compressor stations are operated in 63 regions of Russia.
Natural gas (methane) is considered to be a key alternative to petroleum fuel - its average cost in Russia is 14 rubles per 1 cub.m (1 cubic metre of methane is equivalent to 1 litre of gasoline).
